The traveling mechanism is one of the most important parts of roadheader. Generally, the walking mechanism adopts the track type, and the two tracks are driven by their own power respectively to achieve in-situ steering. There are two kinds of driving power for track: electric motor and hydraulic motor. Generally, only one walking speed is set for motor drive. Hydraulic motor drive can directly drive the track sprocket by low-speed large-torque motor, or drive the track sprocket by medium-speed hydraulic motor and reducer, which can realize stepless speed regulation. There are two types of track structure: sliding and rolling. When the speed of the machine is less than 10m/min, medium and light roadheader should adopt sliding structure. Rolling structure shall be adopted for heavy and extra-heavy roadheader when the speed of the machine is more than 10m/min.
